1st Prize Winner- Aline Lanita "Salve A Água"

This year's theme was Generation Rescue: Sustainable Water for All. 

 

Climate change has become a harsh reality in our lives. As temperatures rise, water patterns are disrupted, ecosystems are disturbed, crops are affected, and energy resources become unsustainable for long-term use. These ongoing changes affect our local and global communities in every way, and youth are key to facing this global reality.  Students were encouraged to highlight the importance of climate change and its impact on water resources.​

Poet showcase winner - ELISHA ANTÓNIO - Querida Água

The Young Angolan Artists and Authors of Diaspora in the USA Contest is an annual contest based on the original idea of ​​harnessing the power of art to transform societies and transcend cultural boundaries. Joining the spirit promoted by Sister Cities International, it emphasizes the brotherhood between the city of Houston and the city of Luanda. This competition is a unique platform for the promotion of peace, and respect through mutual understanding and the exchange of knowledge, cultural values, and other interests within the community. 

 

The contest gives “Young Angolans and Descendants of Angolans and Diaspora Residents in the United States" the opportunity to express their vision of Angola through original artwork, literature, photography, and music emphasizing unity and peace in an ever-changing world.

 

Submissions are centered around an annual theme and judged based on originality, composition, and theme interpretation. Selected winners will receive a grand prize in each category (artwork, literature, photography, and music)

Any Angolan students or descendants of diaspora in the USA can participate in the contest.
